There are 26 old colonial low-lying estate houses which were homes to the British sholdiers and their family back in the 50s-70s. Currently this area is used more for arts and design development. Another colonial estate is located at opposite Portsdown beside Hort Park.
2. Colbar a short form for colonial bar was built in 1953 at Jalan Hang Jebat started off as a canteen to serve the colonial british soldiers staying at Wessex Estate. In 2003, it shifted to Whitchurch Road to continue serving its famous curry chicken and chicken chop.
3. The original Holland Road in the 60s used to pass through the Hakka Graveyard called Fung Yun Thai Cemetery. It links part of the Bukit Timah Road to a junction at Ulu Pandan Road.
